Driving here isn’t quite as safe as it is in the U.S.  Adults drive like teenagers and teenagers drive like squirrels at the steering wheel.  The accident and death rate is pretty high (don’t tell my mom). Luckily, the government is starting to take measures to encourage safer driving.

One of the normal practices people seem to have adopted here goes like this:

1.  Barrel down the fast lane of the highway, ignoring the speed limit (feel free to weave through lanes like Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights if you want to mix things up)

2.  Flash your lights or high beams at the car in front of you that’s moving too slowly for your taste.  This says kindly, “Move the f*ck over, I want to get through.”

3.  Couple that with tailgating so close that your car (preferably a large, shiny SUV) might as well be sitting between the kids in the other car’s back seat.

4.  If they haven’t moved over immediately, reluctantly apply your brakes, but only as much as you have to, and continue flashing your lights furiously, expressing accurately your impatience and indignation.  Honking optional.

5.  [the car moves out of your way, wisely escaping its demise]

6.  Resume speeding like a bat out of hell…for about another 20 yards when you reach the next car.

7.  Repeat.
